How to play

Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.

Game Setup To set up the game, place the Game board in the center of the table and give each player a Player board and color tracker placed on the "0" space of the score track (p. 4). Sort the Bonus tiles by terrain type into supply piles, shuffle the Animal tiles, and draw three of them to place face-up in the designated slots above the Game board (p. 4). Each player takes three animal figures of each of the three drawn animal types, placing them on their Player board according to their randomly selected Setup tile (p. 4, 10). Finally, shuffle the Action tiles, place a number of them equal to the number of players plus one face-up in the Draft market on the Game board, and choose a starting player (p. 4).

How a Turn and Round Work The game is played over three rounds, with each round consisting of five drafts (p. 5, 8). Each draft contains three phases performed in order:

  • Drafting Phase: Starting with the first player and going clockwise, each player takes one Action tile from the Draft market (p. 5). The remaining tile is moved to the Leftover zone under the market (p. 5).
  • Tile Placement Phase: Using the collected tiles, players have three options: place a tile in their Neighborhood, place a tile in their Warehouse, or discard a tile to make a special move (p. 15, 18). Placing tiles in the Neighborhood can trigger immediate actions like discovering animals, taking Bonus tiles, or moving animals (p. 15, 17).
  • Maintenance Phase: The Draft market is refreshed with new Action tiles, and the First Player token passes clockwise (p. 8). At the end of a round, the most frequent terrain type in the Leftover zone triggers a movement for all discovered animals standing on that terrain type (p. 8).

How the Game Ends The game ends after the 3rd round is over (p. 5). Players calculate their final Victory points based on animals that successfully reached the Zoo, discovered animals that did not reach the Zoo, and food symbols collected on their tiles in their Neighborhood (p. 5, 9).
