How to play
Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.
Here is how to play the game, structured step by step based on the rules provided.
Setup
- Each player chooses a Monster, takes its figure, its Monster board, and sets its life points to 10 and its Victory Points to 0 (p. 7).
- Place the Tokyo board at the center of the table (p. 7). If there are 4 players or less, use only Tokyo City; for 5 or 6 players, also use Tokyo Bay (p. 4).
- Shuffle the cards to form a deck and place the first three face up on the table next to the deck, along with the Energy cubes and counters (p. 4).
- Set the 6 black dice in the center of the table and set the green ones aside (p. 4). Every player rolls the 6 black dice, and the player who has the most Attack results goes first (p. 4).
How a Turn Works Starting with the first player, each Monster takes a turn clockwise (p. 4). A turn consists of the following steps in order:
- Rolling and rerolling the dice: On your turn you roll all 6 dice (p. 4). Then you can reroll any or all of the dice up to twice, keeping or rerolling dice from previous rolls (p. 4).
- Resolving the dice: The symbols you get at the end of your rolling step are your actions for this turn (p. 3).
- Victory Points: Rolling three 1s, 2s, or 3s scores that many Victory Points, with each additional matching die worth 1 more point (p. 3).
- Energy: Each Energy result lets you take an Energy cube (p. 3).
- Attack: Deals damage to Monsters not in your location, causing them to lose life points (p. 3). If a Monster loses its last life, it is out of the game (p. 3).
- Heal: Regains one lost life point, though a Monster cannot go above 10 life points (p. 11).
- Buying cards (optionally): After resolving the dice, a Monster may spend accumulated Energy cubes to purchase any of the three face-up cards, or spend 2 Energy to sweep and replace all three face-up cards (p. 2).
- End of your turn: Resolve any card effects that trigger during this step, and then hand the dice to the player on your left (p. 2).
How the Game Ends The game is over and won when either a Monster scores 20 Victory Points, or when a Monster is the last one standing after all others are eliminated (p. 8).
