How to play

Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.

Setup

  • Players take the Fighter boards for their two chosen Fighters and place them in front of themselves (p. 4).
  • Each player takes two Health markers and places them on the Start space of their Fighters' Health tracks (p. 4).
  • Take Power cubes equal to each Fighter's Base Power and place them in their Power Supplies above their boards (p. 4).
  • Separate each Fighter's Starting Card (marked by a black border and a star at the top right) from their deck and place the remaining cards of both Fighters together face down beside the boards to form your Build Deck (p. 4, p. 5).
  • Place your two Starting Cards in a face-down Fight Deck above your Fighter board, with the card you want to play first on top (p. 5).

How a Turn Works

  • A game is played over a series of Rounds, with each Round consisting of a Fight! Step followed by a Build! Step (p. 6).
  • During the Fight! Step, a Turn starts each time players simultaneously reveal the top card of their Fight Deck (p. 7).
  • The revealed card determines that team's Active Fighter for that turn, while the other Fighter is their Partner (p. 10).
  • Players simultaneously perform the Actions indicated on their revealed cards (p. 7). The most common actions include:
    • Attack: Reduce your Opponent's Health Points by your Fighter's Power (p. 12).
    • Block: Negate all Attacks performed by your Opponent or their Partner (p. 12).
    • Gain Power: Add a Power cube to your Power Supply (p. 12).
    • Heal: Gain the indicated number of HP (p. 12).
  • Turns continue until players have no cards left in their Fight Deck, ending the Fight! Step without shuffling the deck (p. 7).
  • Players then move to the Build! Step: draw 3 cards from your Build Deck, secretly select one to add to your Fight Deck in any position without rearranging the other cards, and discard the remaining two cards to the bottom of the Build Deck (p. 14).

How the Game Ends

  • The game ends immediately when one Fighter is Knocked Out because their Health marker reaches the KO space at the end of a turn, meaning that player has lost (p. 7, p. 9).
  • The fight can also end in a Draw if at least two opposing Fighters are Knocked Out in the same turn (Double KO!), or in the extremely rare case that a player cannot draw 3 cards from their Build Deck (p. 9).
