How to play
Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.
Here is a general overview of how to play the game, based on the provided rules.
Setup
- Give each player a reference card and a fame card (p. 4).
- Give each player a starting deck of six gray, rank-0 cards: 2 caterpillars, 1 skunk, 1 dragonfly, 1 bee, and 1 snail, leaving space for dismissed cards (p. 4).
- Place the five price cards face up in ascending order in the center of the table (p. 4). Shuffle the toon cards to form the toon deck, and reveal the top five cards to create the market, sorted by rank under the price cards (p. 4). Place the critic’s choice card near the toon deck (p. 4).
- Give the first player card to the person who most recently watched a cartoon (p. 4).
How a Round Works The game is played over a series of rounds, with each round divided into four phases (p. 7):
- Flip: All players shuffle their decks face down and simultaneously reveal cards one by one into a 3-by-2 grid, from left to right, top row followed by bottom row, stopping once all six grid slots are filled (p. 7).
- Check Fame: All players simultaneously review each toon in their grid to determine their generated fame, marking their total by overlaying their reference card on their fame card (p. 7).
- Market: Starting with the first player and going clockwise, each player spends their earned fame to perform up to two actions (p. 19). Players may hire a toon from the market by paying the cost on the price card above it (adding it to their deck), or dismiss a toon card from their revealed grid for 5 fame (permanently removing it from their deck) (p. 19). The market is refilled and rearranged by rank after each player's turn (p. 5, 9).
- Cleanup: All players collect the cards in their grid and add them back to their deck (p. 5). If no player generated at least 30 fame, the first player card passes clockwise and a new round begins (p. 5).
How the Game Ends
- The end of the game is triggered if any player generates at least 30 fame during the Check Fame phase (p. 5).
- When this happens, the player with the most fame takes the critic's choice card (which provides an additional +3 fame during the final step), and all players complete one last Final Flip phase (p. 5, 7).
- The player who generates the most fame on the Final Flip wins the game (p. 5). If there is a tie for the most fame, the tied players collect their grids and decks, shuffle, flip, and check fame again in a tiebreaker until a single winner is determined (p. 5).
