How to play
Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.
Here is a general overview of how to play the game, based on the provided rules.
Setup
To set up the game, follow these steps:
- Place the Clank! board to one side of the playing space, and put the Dragon marker on the Rage Track on the space that matches the number of players (p. 24).
- Separate the square tiles by their backs into piles, shuffle the Depths tiles into a face-down stack, and place four randomly selected starting tiles on top (p. 24).
- Place the starting tile in the center of your playing space, and set up the Bank with Gold, Lockpicks, Ghost cubes, and the Dragon bag containing the black dragon cubes (p. 24).
- The sneakiest player goes first (or you choose randomly), and play proceeds clockwise (p. 19).
- Players place initial Clank! cubes into the Clank! area based on turn order (the first player places 3, the second places 2, the third places 1, and the fourth places 0) (p. 19).
- Every player begins with three Lockpick tokens and shuffles their starting deck to draw a hand of five cards (p. 5, 19).
How a Turn Works
You start each of your turns with five cards in your hand and must play all of your cards before ending your turn (p. 6).
- You can play your cards in any order, placing them into a face-up play area in front of you (p. 6).
- Cards generate resources such as Skill, Swords, and Boots, which you use to take actions like acquiring cards, fighting monsters, or moving through the dungeon (p. 5).
- You can also generate Gold, card draws, or Clank!, which adds your colored cubes to the Clank! area and increases your noise level (p. 13).
- Once you have played all your cards and taken any desired actions, you declare the end of your turn (p. 12).
- Afterward, you clear your play area, draw five new cards, refill the Dungeon Row to six cards, and check whether a dragon attack is triggered by any newly added Dragon Attack symbols (p. 12).
How the Game Ends
A game ends when all players have either escaped or been knocked out (p. 14).
- Your heist ends voluntarily when you escape by returning to the Crypt with an Artifact (p. 14).
- Your heist ends involuntarily and you are knocked out if your Health Meter completely fills with damage cubes (p. 14, 17).
- Once all players have escaped or been knocked out, surviving players who retrieved an Artifact count their final score by adding up the value of their Artifact, accumulated Gold, acquired tokens (including any Mastery token), and points awarded by cards in their deck (p. 18).
- The player with the most points wins and is declared the Greatest Thief in the Realm (p. 18).
