How to play

Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.

Here is how to play the game based on the provided rules:

Setup

  1. Choose an Adventure: The game offers 8 different adventures based on the novel The Hobbit that can be played independently. When playing for the first time, it is recommended to play the parts in order.
  2. Distribute Materials: Each player takes an adventure guide and a marker, and everyone decides together which part the group will play, turning to the corresponding page in their guide.
  3. Determine First Player: Choose a random first player, or follow the custom of Hobbits and Dwarves by allowing the shortest player to go first.

How a Turn Works

  1. Rolling Dice: The first player rolls the 5 white journey dice into the middle of the table. (Note: Certain adventures also require rolling a black 12-sided die which may apply to all players or trigger specific regional effects).
  2. Selecting Dice: The first player chooses one of the dice from the middle and pulls it toward them. Play then progresses clockwise, with each player choosing one of the remaining dice and immediately using it to perform an action in their adventure guide.
  3. Taking Actions: Players use their chosen dice to draw paths on their map, rotate or mirror path sections, and connect to or enter spaces to collect resources like swords, bread, or hats. After the last die has been taken, the next player becomes the first player for the following round, collects all the dice, rolls them into the middle, and begins a new round.

How the Game Ends

Play progresses from round to round until an adventure's specific endgame condition is reached—such as a player connecting all 12 Dwarves except Thorin to Bag End in Part 1, or entering all 13 spaces showing green gems in Part 5.

(Note: The provided evidence is a partial sample and does not detail the exact multiplayer win condition beyond reaching the end of the adventure and checking scores, nor does it contain a full comprehensive scoring breakdown for every single adventure).
