How to play
Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.
Here is how to play the game, based on the provided rules.
To set up the game, place the start card in the middle with the 0-10 side up (p. 4). Place 1 shame card next to the start card and set the rest aside as the supply (p. 4). Give each player a player aid, shuffle the number cards, deal each player a starting hand, and set aside the leftover cards facedown (p. 4). Finally, choose a random player to go first (p. 4).
The game is played in rounds called bouts, which are usually played between two players (p. 1). During a bout, you and your opponent take turns playing 1 card at a time faceup onto a pile in the middle (p. 1).
Here is how each turn works:
- The number 5 is the starting balance total, and each card played raises or lowers this balance total by the number printed on it (p. 1). Blue cards raise the balance total, and red cards lower it (p. 1).
- Each time you play a card, figure out the new balance total, shout it out, and ensure only the top card on the pile is visible (p. 1).
- After raising or lowering the balance total, reverse the turn order (p. 2). If a player has no cards left, skip their turn for the rest of the bout (p. 2).
- Try to force your opponent to push the balance above 10 or below 0 so you can yell Slambo! (p. 1). If you bring the balance total out of bounds, you lose the bout and must take all shame cards from the middle (p. 1, 3).
- If both players run out of cards without anyone getting Slambo'd, a break is called, no one takes shame cards, and 1 shame card is added next to the start card for the next bout (p. 3).
The game ends when any player has 3 or more shame cards at the end of a bout (p. 2, 3). That player loses, and the player left standing (or all opponents in a 3-4 player game) wins (p. 2, 3).
