How to play
Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.
Here is how to play the game, broken down into setup, turns, and how the game ends.
Setup
- Put all 7 tokens in a pile in the middle of the table (p. 1).
- Shuffle all the cards and deal 1 card to each player, keeping it secret (p. 1).
- Randomly remove 1 card from the deck and put it aside face down (p. 1). (Note: For a 2-player game, remove 3 cards — set them aside with 2 face up and 1 face down (p. 1).)
- Place the remaining cards face down in the center of the table to form a draw pile (p. 2).
- Pick a player to go first based on criteria like who most closely resembles their pet (p. 2).
Taking Your Turn
- Draw the top card from the draw pile into your hand so that you now have 2 cards (p. 1).
- Choose 1 card to keep in your hand and 1 card to play by putting it face up in front of you (p. 1).
- Immediately take the action written on the card you played (p. 1).
- Your turn is then over, and play continues clockwise around the table (p. 1).
- Keep all the cards you have played visible in front of you instead of using a shared discard pile (p. 1).
How the Game Ends
- A round ends when you cannot draw a card because the draw pile has run out, or if all but one player has been eliminated (p. 3, 5).
- When the draw pile runs out, all players who have not been eliminated reveal their hand, and the player with the highest card wins the round to take a token (p. 3, 5). If only one player remains, they also win the round and take a token (p. 3, 5).
- If there is a tie for the highest card at the end of a round, look at the face-up cards in front of each tied player; the player with the highest card in front of them wins the round and takes a token (p. 5).
- After a round ends, all cards are shuffled to begin a new round (p. 3, 5).
- The game ends when one player has collected enough tokens to win, which depends on player count: 3 tokens needed for 2-3 players, or 2 tokens needed for 4-6 players (p. 5).
