How to play
Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.
Welcome to the overview of the game! Here is how you set up, play through your turns, and bring the game to a close.
Setup
To get the game ready, you and your opponent will go through these steps:
- Choose your faction, playing as either the Republic or the Separatists (p. 4, 23).
- Take your faction's 10 starter cards and shuffle them together to form your starting player deck (p. 4).
- Place your starting base faceup in front of you, and stack your remaining base cards facedown underneath it (p. 4).
- Shuffle the 90 galaxy cards together to form the galaxy deck, and deal the top six cards faceup in a line to form the galaxy row (p. 5).
- Place the 10 Outer Rim Pilot cards in a faceup stack next to the galaxy row (p. 5).
- Set out the damage counters, resource counters, and unfold the Balance of the Force track with the Force marker placed all the way on the Republic side (p. 5).
- Finally, each player draws the top five cards from their player deck to form their starting hand (p. 5).
How a Turn Works
The game is played over a series of alternating turns, with the Separatist player going first (p. 13).
At the beginning of your turn, perform these steps in order:
- If your previous base was destroyed on your opponent's last turn, choose one of your remaining base cards to reveal as your new base (p. 13).
- If the Force marker is all the way on your side of the track, gain one resource from the supply (p. 13).
- Gain resources from each capital ship you currently have in play (p. 13).
During your turn, you may perform any of the following actions as many times as you like, in any order:
- Play a card from your hand into your play area to collect its resources and move the Force marker (p. 5, 8, 14).
- Purchase a card from the galaxy row or Outer Rim Pilot deck by spending resources equal to its cost (p. 3, 15).
- Use a card ability on your cards currently in play (p. 8, 16).
- Commit to an attack by grouping your units and capital ships together to target your opponent's base or target cards in the galaxy row (p. 8, 15).
- Resolve an attack against your targets (p. 8, 17-18).
At the end of your turn, complete the following cleanup steps:
- Discard all of your unit cards from play (p. 21).
- Return your base and each capital ship in play to their proper orientation (p. 21).
- Discard any remaining cards in your hand and return any unspent resource counters to the supply (p. 21).
- Draw five new cards from your deck, shuffling your discard pile into your deck if you ever run out of cards (p. 21).
How the Game Ends
The game ends immediately the moment one player's third base is destroyed (p. 1, 13). The first player to successfully destroy three of their opponent’s bases wins the game, and no further cards or abilities can be resolved once that third base falls (p. 1).
