How to play
Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.
Setup
- Each player receives an individual board, 8 action cubes of one color, 2 random bonus cards, 5 random bird cards, and 5 food tokens (1 of each type) (p. 8).
- Players keep up to 5 bird cards and discard the rest; for each kept card, 1 food token must be discarded (p. 8).
- Each player chooses 1 bonus card to keep and discards the other (p. 8).
- Shuffle the bird cards to form a deck and place 3 face-up cards in the bird tray, place food and egg tokens in the general supply, and roll the food dice into the birdfeeder tower (p. 2).
- Place the objective board with either the green or blue side face up, and place random objective tiles on its four spaces (p. 2).
How a Turn Works
- The game is played over 4 rounds, with players taking turns in a clockwise direction until everyone has used all of their available action cubes (p. 4).
- On your turn, you choose 1 of 4 actions from the left side of your individual board and place an action cube on the leftmost open space of that habitat row (p. 4, 9).
- The four available actions are:
- Play a bird from your hand: Pay the food and egg costs, place the bird in the matching habitat on your board, and activate its when played power if it has one (p. 3, 9, 10).
- Gain food and activate forest bird powers: Gain food tokens based on the dice shown in the leftmost space of the forest row, optionally convert a card for extra food, and activate brown when activated powers from right to left (p. 3, 9, 20).
- Lay eggs and activate grassland bird powers: Gain eggs based on the leftmost space of the field row, place them on your bird cards up to their egg limit, optionally convert food for an extra egg, and activate brown when activated powers from right to left (p. 3, 11, 17).
- Draw bird cards and activate wetland bird powers: Draw bird cards from the tray or deck as indicated by the leftmost space of the wetland row, optionally convert an egg for an extra card, and activate brown when activated powers from right to left (p. 3, 11, 18).
How the Game Ends
- The game ends at the end of the 4th round (p. 4, 5).
- At the end of each round, players remove all action cubes from their individual boards, score the end-of-round objective, discard the face-up cards in the bird tray and refill it, and pass the first-player marker clockwise (p. 4, 11).
- Final scoring is calculated using the scoring pad to sum points from bird cards, completed bonus cards, end-of-round goals, and 1 point for each egg on bird cards, food stored on bird cards, and card tucked under bird cards (p. 4, 5).
- The player with the most points wins, with ties broken by the player with the most unused food tokens (p. 16).
