How to play

Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.

Here is how to play the game, based on the provided rules.

Setup

  • Each player takes a Personal Board, which includes four Figure spaces, a space for a Scoreboard, a Stage, and a Personal Waiting Zone (p. 11).
  • Each player places 16 Umbrellas on their Stage following the color indications, and places 4 Umbrellas of different colors in their Personal Waiting Zone (p. 11).
  • Depending on player count, Waiting Zones are placed between stages and at the center of the table with 4 Umbrellas of different colors on each (p. 11). For 2 players, specific scoring token amounts are set aside (p. 6).
  • All players take a Scoreboard of the same difficulty level (use level 1 for your first game) and place it on their Personal Board below the Figure spaces (p. 6). Place the necessary Scoring tokens in the center of the table, setting others aside (p. 6).
  • Place starting Figure tiles on the first two Figure spaces above the Stage according to the rules (p. 11). The player with the nicest umbrella at home starts the game (p. 6).

How a Turn Works

  • In clockwise order starting with the first player, the active player selects an Umbrella from one of the 4 Waiting Zones around their Personal Board (left, right, center of the table, or their Personal Waiting Zone) (p. 9).
  • They slide it from where they took it into one of the 4 lines and take the last Umbrella from that line, immediately placing it on the corresponding Waiting Zone on the other side (p. 9).
  • If, after sliding an Umbrella, the player's Stage matches a Figure tile in front of them, they take a Scoring token and place it on an available spot of the same color on their Scoreboard (p. 13).
  • The player then takes the completed Figure tile and passes it to the player on their left, who places it on an empty Figure space or covers an existing one (p. 13).

How the Game Ends

  • The game ends in 3 different ways: when the last available Scoring token has been placed, when a player no longer has any Figure tile in front of them, or when a player has placed 10 Scoring tokens on their Scoreboard (p. 2). (Note: Source 4 also notes the game can end when it is impossible to create a new Figure with remaining Umbrella tokens [p. 11].)
  • After the end trigger, each other player takes one final turn, and then scores are tallied by awarding points for Scoring tokens, penalties for Umbrella tokens in the Personal Waiting Zone, and bonuses for empty waiting zones or completed groups depending on the Scoreboard (p. 2). The player with the most points wins, with ties broken by the fewest umbrellas on the Personal Waiting Zone (p. 2).
