How to play

Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.

Setup

  • Place the Auction board in the center of the table with the Sun Boat icon side up, place the Ra statue nearby, and put the Sun Boat marker on the Ra track's starting space for your player count (p. 8).
  • Place the First Epoch side of the Epoch counter on the upper right corner of the Ra track (p. 8). Give each player a player board matching their player count, two face-down 5-point scoring tokens, and the starting sun disks specified for their player count (p. 8).
  • Put all Auction tiles into the cloth bag and mix them up, and place the remaining scoring tokens near the Auction board (p. 8).

How a Turn Works

  • The player with the highest-numbered sun disk takes the first turn of each epoch, and play continues clockwise (p. 3). Players who have run out of face-up sun disks can no longer take actions (p. 2).
  • On your turn, you must perform exactly one of the following actions (p. 3):
    1. Draw a Tile: Draw a tile from the bag. If it is a non-Ra tile, place it in the leftmost open space on the auction track (p. 3). If it is a Ra tile, discard it, advance the Sun Boat one space to the right, and start an auction (p. 3). You cannot take this action if the auction track is full (p. 3).
    2. Invoke Ra: Say > “I invoke Ra!” and take the Ra statue to begin an auction without moving the Sun Boat (p. 3).
    3. Spend God Tile(s): Discard a God tile from a previous auction to obtain any one non-God tile from the auction track (p. 3).

How Auctions and Scoring Work

  • Auctions are triggered by drawing a Ra tile or using the Invoke Ra action (p. 13). Players bid using their face-up sun disks clockwise starting from the player to the left of the Ra player, with the auction always ending with the Ra player (p. 13).
  • The highest bidder wins all Auction tiles on the track, exchanges their used sun disk for the sun disk on the Auction board, and immediately resolves any Disaster tiles (p. 7, 11). All other players return their used sun disks face up (p. 7).
  • An epoch ends immediately if all player sun disks are face down or if the Sun Boat enters the rightmost space of the Ra track (p. 14). Scoring then takes place for face-up tiles next to player boards (except Monuments, which score only at the end of the third epoch) (p. 6, 14).

How the Game Ends

  • The game concludes at the end of the Third Epoch after a final round of scoring, which includes Monument tiles and a bonus or penalty for players' remaining sun disk totals (p. 1, 6).
  • At that point, the player with the highest total score wins the game (p. 1).
