How to play
Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.
Welcome to Bomb Busters, a cooperative game where you and your teammates act as bomb disposal experts working together as a team to defuse a mission's bomb (p. 2).
Here is how to set up, play through a turn, and end the game:
Setup
- Select a Mission card (p. 2). The Captain reads it aloud and places it faceup on the bottom left of the board to show its special rules on the back (p. 2).
- Distribute character cards, tile stands, and equipment cards based on the number of players, then shuffle and distribute the wire tiles facedown among the tile stands as equally as possible (p. 2, 8).
- Players place their dealt wires into their tile stands facing themselves and sorted in ascending order from left to right (p. 11).
- Each player places one Info token in front of their stand pointing to one of their blue wires (p. 8, 12).
- Set the detonator dial to its starting space depending on the player count, and place the available equipment cards faceup over the checkmark space (p. 8, 12).
How a Turn Works
Starting with the Captain and proceeding clockwise, each bomb disposal expert takes a turn as the active player (p. 5). On your turn, you must perform one of three actions:
- Dual Cut: Choose a value on a tile in your hand, then point to a teammate's tile and guess that it matches that value (p. 8). If they match, both wires are revealed and placed in front of their respective stands (p. 8). If they do not match, the detonator dial advances, and an Info token showing the true value of the teammate's wire is placed in front of it (p. 8). However, if you accidentally pick a red wire, the bomb explodes immediately (p. 8).
- Solo Cut: If the last of a set of identical wires appear only in your hand, you can cut them in pairs or all at once without involving a teammate (p. 6).
- Reveal Your Red Wires: If all of your remaining uncut wires are red, you reveal them and place them faceup on the table (p. 6).
How the Game Ends
- Win: The mission ends in success when all bomb disposal experts have completely empty tile stands (p. 7).
- Loss: The mission ends in failure if a red wire is cut or if the detonator dial advances all the way to the skull space (p. 7).
