How to play

Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.

Here is how to play Entropy, structured from setup to the end of the game:

Setup

  • Place the Main board in the center of the play area and set up all randomized tiles, cards, and tokens (such as Action tiles, Stars, Asteroids, Planets, Biomes, Life cards, and Mission cards) into their respective supplies and decks (p. 4).
  • Each player chooses a color, takes a Player board (Console), and places their Creation tokens, Focus cards, Generator marker, and a starting Solar System tile in front of them (p. 5, 19).
  • Draw a random Starting Star and Planet, place your Scientist token on an Action space, and take your starting Life cards and resources (p. 5, 19).
  • Place your Objective markers on the leftmost space of the Objective tracks and draw 2 Mission cards (p. 5).

How a Turn Works Entropy is played over a variable number of rounds where each player takes a single turn in clockwise order (p. 4). Each turn consists of 3 sequential steps:

  1. Movement: Move your Scientist between 1 and 3 spaces clockwise around the Main board to land on an inner or outer Action space (p. 4). If you pass over any of your Creation tokens, you must retrieve them onto your Console (p. 11). If you land on an Action space occupied by another Scientist, add 1 to your movement distance for resolving Traffic Bonuses, and spend 1 Entropy if you moved by 3 spaces (p. 6).
  2. Action: Resolve the Traffic Bonus of your landing space first, followed by the action of the space itself (p. 2, 7). You may also perform Entropy exchange free actions (spending 2 Entropy to gain 1 Energy or 1 Mass) during this step (p. 7).
  3. Mission: Check if you can fulfill any Mission cards, Main Objective conditions, or Lifeform Objective tiles (p. 12).

How the Game Ends The end of the game is triggered as soon as any 2 Objectives are completed via Objective track progress or claiming the big Lifeform Objective tile (p. 6, 13). When this occurs, finish the current round, play one additional round, and then proceed to Final Scoring (p. 6, 13).
