How to play

Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.

Here is a general overview of how to play Enchanted Ivy, covering setup, turns, and how the game ends based on the rules provided.

Setup

To set up a game in Story Mode, follow these steps:

  • Open the Storybook to the setup page for your chosen scenario (p. 3).
  • Lay out the indicated guest cards faceup from the scenario Guest List, and place the ivy scoring card nearby (p. 3).
  • Gather the matching guest tokens into the draw bag, leaving any remaining tokens in the box (p. 3).
  • Prepare the draw pile by discarding random ivy cards until you have the correct scenario count, then shuffle the rest with the balcony side facing up (p. 3).
  • Place your starting door and any previously unlocked secret doors in front of you (p. 3).
  • Draw 2 ivy cards from the deck and 2 guest tokens from the bag to form your starting hand (p. 3).

How a Turn Works

When playing a scenario, you take one turn after another, and each turn consists of three steps (p. 6):

  1. Build Inn: Place 1 ivy card from your hand as a balcony and the other as a wall, in either order (p. 6). Each newly placed card after the first must touch at least one previously placed card along an edge (p. 6). Walls can be placed in either vertical orientation, while balconies must always be upright from your perspective (p. 6).
  2. Place Guest: Place 1 guest token from your hand onto the new balcony you just built, and keep the other token (p. 6).
  3. Replenish: Draw 2 ivy cards and 1 guest token to refill your hand (p. 6).

You may also choose to place a door once during the scenario at any time (p. 5). Unless stated otherwise, doors must be placed on a wall in the bottom-most row of your inn, and you cannot place new ivy cards below a door once it is down (p. 5).

How the Game Ends

The game ends after you draw the last ivy card in the draw pile, at which point you finish your current turn (p. 8).
