How to play

Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.

Welcome to Flamecraft! Your goal is to become the most storied and successful Flamekeeper by growing your Reputation through visiting Shops, placing Artisan Dragons, casting Enchantments, and satisfying secret Fancy Dragon goals (p. 5). Here is how to set up, play, and end the game:

Setup

  1. Town & Shops: Roll out the Town mat, place the 6 starter Shops faceup on any 6 Shop spaces, and place matching starter Artisan Dragons on their first slots (p. 24). Sort and shuffle the remaining Shop cards to create the Shop deck (p. 24).
  2. Decks & Supplies: Shuffle the Artisan Dragon deck, deal 3 to each player, and place the rest near the mat (p. 5, 23). Shuffle the Enchantment deck and reveal the top 5 cards in a faceup row (p. 23). Place Goods tokens and Coin tokens in separate piles nearby (p. 24).
  3. Player Setup: Choose a player token and matching Reputation marker, and randomly determine the first player (p. 23). Deal 2 Fancy Dragons to each player, who each choose 1 to keep secret and return the rest to the bottom of the deck (p. 23).

How a Turn Works

Players take turns in clockwise order (p. 5). On your turn, you must perform the following steps:

  • Visit a Shop: Move your player token to a different Shop than the one you visited on your last turn (p. 5). If other players are already there, you must give 1 Good (or Coin) of your choice to each of them (p. 18).
  • Gather or Enchant: Choose whether to Gather Goods/rewards at the Shop or Enchant it by playing a matching Enchantment card from the faceup row and paying its Goods cost (p. 5, 9). When you visit or enchant, you may also optionally fire up the abilities of Artisan Dragons at that Shop (p. 9).
  • End Your Turn: Clean up by expanding the Town if any new Shops were drawn (p. 12). Discard Artisan Dragons down to a limit of 6 and Goods down to a limit of 7 per type (p. 12). Refresh the faceup Artisan Dragons and Enchantments in the Park/row until there are 5 of each (p. 12).

How the Game Ends

The game end is triggered as soon as the last card in either the Artisan deck or Enchantment deck is drawn or revealed (p. 13). Every player receives 1 final turn, including the person who triggered it (p. 13).

After final turns, players calculate their final Reputation as follows:

  • Leftover Coins: Return all Coins to the Fountain to gain 1 Reputation per returned Coin (p. 13).
  • Fancy Dragons: Reveal each Fancy Dragon whose goals you fulfilled and score the indicated Reputation (p. 13).

Whoever has the highest total Reputation score wins (p. 13).
