How to play

Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.

Here is a how-to-play overview of the game based on the rules:

Setup

  • Place the game board in the center of the table and sort the betting tickets by color into stacks on their ticket tents, placing the 1-Pound tickets on top and 2-Pound tickets on the bottom (p. 9).
  • Place the 5 pyramid tickets as a stack on the board, sort the Egyptian Pound coins to form the bank, and give each player 3 Egyptian Pounds and a set of character finish cards and a spectator tile (p. 9).
  • Determine the starting positions of the 5 racing camels by rolling all 5 racing dice together and placing each camel onto the track as indicated, stacking any camels on the same space (p. 5).
  • Determine the starting positions of the 2 crazy camels by rolling the grey die to place them on spaces 14, 15, or 16 moving counterclockwise (p. 5).
  • Put all racing dice and the grey die into the pyramid, place the pyramid on the board, and give the starting player marker to the youngest player (p. 11).

How a Turn Works

  • Play proceeds continuously in a clockwise direction starting with the player holding the starting player marker (p. 8).
  • On your turn, you must choose and perform exactly 1 of 4 possible actions (p. 8):
    • Take 1 betting ticket: Take the top betting ticket from any stack on the game board to back that camel for the current leg (p. 8).
    • Place your spectator tile: Place or move your spectator tile onto an empty track space (not space 1 and not adjacent to another tile) with either its cheering or booing side facing up (p. 3, 10).
    • Take 1 pyramid ticket and use the pyramid: Take a pyramid ticket, shake the pyramid, and reveal one die to move the corresponding camel forward (p. 3, 19, 21).
    • Bet on the overall winner or loser: Place 1 of your finish cards face down onto the appropriate betting space (p. 2, 4).
  • (In games with 6 or more players, a 5th action to enter into a betting partnership is also available) (p. 22).

How the Game Ends

  • The game ends immediately as soon as any camel unit crosses the finish line (p. 3, 15).
  • After the race ends, a final leg scoring round and an end-of-game scoring round for the overall winning and losing camels take place (p. 3, 6).
  • The player who has collected the most Egyptian Pounds wins the game (p. 7, 20).
