How to play

Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.

Here is an overview of how to play the game based on the provided rules.

Setup Before starting a Mission, the game board is created using Map Tiles according to the specific Mission Dossier instructions (p. 9). The First Player for that Mission can be determined by rolling the Rune Die and using the Crystal Compass, or by picking the most experienced player (p. 8). Each Mission features unique rules, challenges, setup instructions, and sometimes new game pieces found in a Mission Dossier envelope (p. 9).

How a Round Works A Round is made up of two or three phases that players complete in order (p. 8):

  • Player Phase: The First Player hosts a draft where players pick Command Cards (p. 8, 14). Players then program these cards into their Mech's Command Line slots and execute their entire Command Line in order from slot 1 to slot 6 (p. 5, 14).
  • Minion Phase: Minions on the board mobilize according to the Mission rules, and new reinforcement Minions spawn onto empty spaces (p. 7). Minions also attack during this phase (p. 8).
  • Danger Phase: Mission-specific dangers, such as the Boss or Lava Walls, take their actions (p. 8). The Boss executes its own Command Line in order from 1 to 4 and drafts new Boss Command Cards (p. 6).

Once all phases are complete, the round ends and the First Player mantle rotates clockwise to the next player for the next round (p. 8, 13).

How the Game Ends (Note: The provided evidence does not fully detail all win conditions or the complete end-game rules, though it mentions that if a Boss Command Line slot reaches a 3-Power level and is executed, it triggers a game over where players lose [p. 6]).
