How to play
Setup, how a turn works and how the game ends, summarised from the rulebook by Eko, Meepzy's rules assistant.
Here is how to play the game, based on the rules provided:
Setup
- Lay out the double-sided board with the forest side face up, placing starting tiles of value 5 on each of the four colored base camps (p. 4).
- Place two bandit tokens and a gold vein tile on each of the seven dense forest spaces as specified (p. 4).
- Shuffle the four secret mine cards and deal one face down to each player to keep secret until the end of the game (p. 4).
- Sort the mine cards by color, give each player one of each color to display face up, and place the remaining mine cards in stacks near the board (p. 4).
- Each player receives 20 coins, a screen, and three claim tokens drawn randomly from the bag and hidden behind their screen (p. 4).
- Display the hardware store next to the board with one claim token drawn from the bag, and lay out the nine action cards with their designated tokens (p. 4).
How a Turn Works
The last player to handle money goes first, and play proceeds clockwise (p. 6). At the start of your turn, lift your screen to reveal your three claim tokens (p. 6). Then, take the following actions in any order (fully completing each action before moving on):
- Place your claim tokens (mandatory): Place your claim tokens on the board adjacent to the base camp or any claim token of the same color to extend the mines (p. 6). You may optionally exchange one of your claim tokens with the claim token in the store (p. 6).
- Make mine card transactions (optional): Make up to two transactions, consisting of buying or selling one mine card each (p. 16). Both transactions must be done together (p. 16).
- Activate an action card (optional): Pay three coins to activate one action card, turning it face down or returning it to the box after use (p. 11).
At the end of your turn, draw three new claim tokens from the bag and hide them behind your screen (p. 6).
How the Game Ends
The game ends at the end of a turn when all seven gold vein tiles have been removed from the dense forest spaces, or immediately when the last token is drawn from the bag (p. 11). When the game ends, all players reveal their secret mine card and sell all their mine cards at their current values (p. 4). The richest player wins, and ties are shared (p. 4).
