Smash Up: 10th Anniversary
Smash Up celebrates 10 years with an all-new set including new factions, a new way to play, and lots of goodies for fans of the game! The biggest change that this box brings is by far the new Big Base mode. In this mode, instead of having multiple bases you have a single larger base that you place in the middle of the table during setup. This base will always have a base card revealed, but you ignore everything in the base except for the ability. The gameplay works similar to usual Smash Up with a couple of differences. The Big Base has 4 sides that you’ll be competing on. These sides work as if they were different bases for card effects, with the current Base card power applying to all of them, and each side being divided into 3 slots. Whenever you would move or play a card onto a “base”, you instead pick a side and place your Minions/Actions into a slot on that side. If you already have cards on a side, all your cards on that side must be placed on the same slot, but you are free to choose which slot to take when first entering (or re-entering) the base. These slots will have passive effects (such as “You have +1 Power here”) or “On occupation” effects that trigger when you enter an empty slot (such as “Draw 2 cards, then Discard 2 cards”). Although there are only 3 slots, in a 4-player game there is a 4th virtual slot with no ability. In Big Base mode, the game will last exactly 3 scoring periods, each being made up of 3 rounds, for a total of 9 rounds. —description from the publisher
