Nice Try, Wise Guy is a competitive party card game set in the film-noir world of Daylight City. Each player is a mob boss intent on whacking every rival, but only one can be left standing. On a turn, a player may attack a rival, run a Racket, use a card from the Vault, or discard and draw. Bombs, arson, snipers, and poison can be met with their matching defenses, while Nice Try, Wise Guy blocks most attacks. A Double Cross sends an attack back at its source, and repeated Double Crosses can send it ricocheting between players until someone can no longer respond. Rackets allow players to steal or inspect cards, hide out in their safe house, force another player to lay low (skip a turn), or blackmail one rival into attacking another. Combination cards open the Vault, where events can shift the balance of power: Shakedown forces rivals to surrender cards; Mob War triggers a chain of attacks; Turn the Tables allows two players to exchange hands; and Chaos forces everyone to pass their hand to the left. The Godfather can step in to save a player’s skin, but the rescued boss then owes a favor that may be called in later. Whenever a player is whacked—directly or through Blackmail or Mob War—the boss who initiated the play claims a card from the victim’s hand as a Grim Reward. The last surviving mob boss wins control of Daylight City. —description from the publisher
